INFORMATION ABOUT PRODUCTS

Yes, the entire range of products of the Masini furnace is frostproof from -25° up to desert climate. This peculiarity is due to the precious clay extracted in the area of Impruneta, a village near Florence, between the Ema and Greve valleys. The area of extraction is fairly small (about 200 square kilometres) therefore the value of the material extracted is considerable

Due to the properties of the clay of Impruneta all our products are frostproof up -25C°.

We wish, anyway, to give you some tips for the winter time to better preserve our terracotta:

  1.  Use small wooden supports or terracotta to keep the vase raised and make sure the drain hole is not clogged;
  2. Make sure there is no stagnant water in saucers;
  3. Empty and turn over the saucers when temperatures are close to 0°;
  4. Sinks, wall and garden fountains should be emptied during the cold season to prevent cracks or ruptures due to freezing water;
  5. Do not move, lift or use hot water if the vessels are frozen and stuck to the ground, in needed use salt;
  6. Prevent snow remains for long over the products.

Repotting is an essential operation for the well-being of  a plant as, when you change the pot , plants  can grow  healthier and appear more flourishing.

When buying a new terracotta pot you should follow these brief tips to do a correct re-pot of  your plants in our terracotta pots:

  1. Cover the drainage hole with a few stones or a terracotta fragment
  2. Place some clay on the bottom of the pot to facilitate drainage and aeration of the soil
  3. Fill the new pot with dirt
  4. Place the new plant in the pot

The colouration of each product is unique, this is due to the chemical and physical components of the clay of Impruneta, which emerge during firing.

The most particular chemical component is iron oxide that allows the colouring of the baked product in a characteristic red.
Fra le componenti chimiche più particolari e decisive nella colorazione del prodotto finale è l’ossido di ferro, che determina il colore rosato, tipico della terracotta di Impruneta.

Impruneta’s clay is rich in mineral salts which sometimes form a white patina on the surface of the pots, called “saltpetre”. This mainly happens during winter.

It should be noted that saltpetre does not affect the quality of the vase, indeed, it is indicative of quality and craftsmanship.

It is very often a natural phenomenon that can last a few hours and then reabsorb, but sometimes it can be permanent.

In the latter case, saltpetre can be removed with water and a laundry brush. If this does not work, it is possible to dilute the buffered acid with water, and then brush it off.

Given the completely handcrafted nature of our pots, weights and measures may slightly vary from those shown on the site or in the catalog.

Even different pieces of the same model may be slightly different, due to the artisan manufacture.

Since 2005 the company is a founding member of the Historical and Artistic Kilns of Impruneta Association, that is committed to give strength to the reasons for quality and culture. It can be recognized by a brand that ensures the highest level of each individual object in which the irreplaceable touch of the craftsman and the living force of tradition are clearly traceable.

CAT stamp means Artistic and Traditional Ceramic.

The brand CAT certifies the origin of the clay from Impruneta, as well asthe product as being made here, the handmade quality according to the regulation.

The objective behind this title is not only to protect the makers but for the consumers as well, for whom the brand will serve as a guarantee of the quality of the terracotta clay in Impruneta.
